What is Pokemon Emerald Emperium?
Pokemon Emerald Imperium is a new, completed GBA ROM hack based on Pokemon Emerald, created by iriv24 and released on January 24, 2025. It’s a challenge-focused hack with improved quality of life features, inspired by Pokemon Radical Red. This ROM includes changes that make the game harder and adds new battles, with adjustments to Pokemon stats, abilities, moves, types, evolutions, and more.
Note:
While Pokemon Emerald Imperium is inspired by Pokemon Radical Red, it’s not connected to it and is its own independent project.
Main Features
1. Pokemon from Generations 1-9
This ROM includes nearly all Pokemon from Gen 1 to Gen 9, except for a few legendary ones that will be added in future updates.
2. All 27 Starters
This ROM lets you choose your starter Pokemon from all generations up to Gen 9, giving you a total of 27 different starter options.
3. Mega Evolutions
Mega Evolutions are included, with some new mega forms like custom Megas for the Gen 4 starters and several Gigantamax forms converted into Megas.
4. Sinnoh (Gen 4) Characters
The game features characters from the Sinnoh region, like Dawn as an additional Rival, all the Sinnoh Gym Leaders, and more.
5. DexNav
The DexNav is included to help make searching for Pokemon easier and more enjoyable.
6. Toggleable Following Pokemon
You can choose whether to have Pokemon follow you in-game.
7. In-Game Cheat Codes
There are cheat codes built into the game to make gameplay easier if you need it.
8. Increased Difficulty
The game is tougher, especially when facing Gym Leaders, Elite 4, Rivals, Team Aqua/Magma, and over 100 Mini Boss battles across routes and optional battles.
9. Difficulty Options
- Easy: Still harder than a regular Pokemon game, but easier than Normal. Boss Pokemon will be 2 levels lower. You can also access your Bag during trainer battles and change the battle style to Shift, although it’s Set by default.
- Normal: The intended difficulty for the game, with tougher boss battles. You can’t access your Bag during battles, and the battle style is forced to Set.
10. In-Game Randomizer
- You can access a randomizer in the game and choose between:
- Normal Randomization: Fully randomizes the Pokemon you encounter.
- Scaled Randomization: Randomizes Pokemon into others with similar base stats.
- Legendary-Aware Randomization: Fully randomizes Pokemon but keeps Legendaries within the Legendary group.
You can also randomize abilities separately from species, and there’s a list of which abilities are included or excluded from the randomizer in the documentation.
11. Lots of QoL Changes
The game includes several Quality of Life improvements to make the experience more enjoyable:
- HMs can be used without teaching them to Pokémon and can be deleted at any time
- TMs are reusable
- You can access the PC from anywhere in the game
- Infinite Repel can be toggled on and off
- Auto Run can be toggled on and off
- You can register multiple Key Items
These are just a few of the Quality of Life changes; there are many more improvements in the game.
